Sandusky’s recently introduced DORA, or downtown outdoor refreshment area, allows patrons to order beverages to-go and walk around the pier with drink in hand. With group reservations, we are able to arrange for lunch on board, while cruises from Kelleys Island to Put-in-Bay, and a narrated tram tour on Put-in-Bay. Hello, we had a group of 27 seniors on the 12-2pm tour on August 23rd, 2019 and everything went very smoothly from on phone ticket ordering, senior discount, parking, pick up of tickets at the window, dock, and boarding instructions! Our group of grad students and faculty took a narrated afternoon cruise and loved it! The narrative is really interesting--it helped us understand what we were seeing, and it gave us a real appreciation for the city and its water. The boat offered many locations for watching, sitting, and chatting. We enjoyed the route (especially the river) and saw so much we couldn't experience any other way.

There is also a bus service to the shopping district (I forget how much). But it is also a short walk from the pier (10 minutes although the sign says only 5 minutes – maybe we walk slow?) If you walk, make sure you turn LEFT as soon as you get to the main street from the pier. We strolled through the little shops (pretty much the same stuff in every store) and went back on board.
